Alleged billionaire kidnapper Evans reportedly returns to Lagos to face arraignment in court

- With the conclusion of investigation into his alleged crime,
Evans, the reported billionaire kidnapper is to be arraigned in
Lagos

- A police source is quoted as saying Evans will be arraigned in
a court in Ikeja on Wednesday, August 30
- During the arraignment, Ademola Kazeem, the Attorney-General
of Lagos state, is to lead the prosecution
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, better known as Evans the
alleged billionaire kidnapper, is to make his first appearance,
many weeks after his arrest, in a Lagos court.
Evans is to appear on Wednesday, August 30 before the Ikeja
Division of the Lagos State High Court, according to a report by
Premium Times.
The report quoted a source in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as
saying Evans is scheduled to appear before Justice Hakeem
Oshodi as the Attorney-General of Lagos state, Adeniji Kazeem,
will lead the prosecution team.
However, Olukoya Ogungbeje, the lawyer who filed a
fundamental rights enforcement suit on behalf of Evans against
the police at a federal court in Lagos, claimed he does not have
any information of the likely arraignment of Evans.

Evans was arrested in his Magodo Estate home in Lagos on June
10 by a special team led by Abba Kyari.
He will now likely be prosecuted according to the anti-kidnapping
laws of Lagos state and would be facing charges of armed
robbery, kidnapping and murder among others.
On Tuesday, David Igbodo, the lawyer to the police on the case
of fundamental against the law enforcement agency in relation
to Evans, said the investigation into his alleged crime was almost
concluded.
He said: “The case is a very controversial one, it is a sensitive
case.
“The Inspector-General of Police devoted time, efforts,
intelligence, and strategies to ensure that he was arrested. He
beat strategies for the past six years.
“When he was arrested, it took time for the police to complete
investigations and very soon, Nigerians will be made to know
what is the next line of action for Evans.”
He said as a lawyer, the IGP respects the rights of citizens.
“He has been organising conferences and seminars for the
Nigeria Police, both investigators and prosecutors, to make sure
nobody is kept in custody beyond 24 or 48 hours without an
order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
“The Inspector General of Police cannot keep Evans without a
court order, there is a valid court order that is still subsisting
as I speak with you for three months. You know Evans was
arrested on the 10th of June; since when he was arrested till
now, it’s not up to three months.
“But meanwhile investigations have almost been completed and
very soon Nigerians will be made to know what is the next line
of action in the case of Evans,” he said.
House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa , has hinted that alleged
notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, better
known as Evans, may be prosecuted in the state.
The argument is that most of his alleged criminal activities were
carried out in Lagos state where he was also arrested in his
Magodo estate mansion.
