1. President Donald Trump yesterday took the oath of office as the 45th president of the United States of America. Trump in his inaugural speech vowed to give back America to Americans.
2. Yahayah Jammeh of The Gambia has accepted to step down from power. He urged the people of the country as well as ECOWAS community to give him time to enable him pack out from the state house, which he has occupied for 22 years.
3. The Federal Government has called on the Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals to replace resident doctors who are currently on a warning strike.
The government in a circular with Ref. No. DHS/828/T/199 dated January 19, 2017 issued by the Director of Health Services in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Wapada Balami, asked the ministry to fire those who have absconded from work in the name of industrial action.
4. Erudite professor, Pat Utomi has explained that the reason Nigerians die so quick was due to unnecessary struggle for things. He noted that Nigeria is currently battling what he described as ‘evergreen war’ and the only way out is to stop chasing after material things.
5. The Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen Ahmed Makarfi, has affirmed that elected officials who decamped to other parties will “pay a political price.”
The former Kaduna State governor said the party would reclaim the seats won by its former members, who defected to other parties
6. No fewer than seven people were reported to have died following a violence that erupted after a young man was allegedly beheaded by some hunters from Oyidah community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State for burial rituals of a high chief.
The incident led to hostilities that left at least seven people dead, while many houses were razed.
7. A group of protesting women known as Patriotic Mothers Without Borders, PMWB, on Friday called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to arrest and prosecute the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose over his involvement in $2.1bn arms deal.
The group led by its leader, Nnenna Jideofor stormed the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja chanting “Fayose must go” “EFCC Must Prosecute Fayose”. They demanded his probe and immediate removal as governor.
8. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is already reaching out to some political parties in its effort to regain power in 2019.
Ekweremadu, who made the disclosure in Abuja, said the development will help reposition the party ahead of the next general election.
9. The solidarity rally by the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for new US President, Donald Trump in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday turned bloody.
No fewer than 11 members of the pro-Biafra group were allegedly killed by security operatives.
10. A certain hunter, Adoko has killed a pastor identified as Ojobo and injured three others in Idoma community, Benue State over meat.
The man reportedly carried out the act after his wife refused to obey him by cooking the meat he had killed the previous day
